Not long ago, we introduced one of Bukovel's smallest yet most meaningful additions – a charming insect hotel created to support the resort's biodiversity. Today, we'd like to introduce the remarkable guests who have made it their home.
At first glance, the little wooden house may seem empty. Look more closely, however, and every hollow reed, drilled wooden block, and carefully placed pine cone has the potential to shelter dozens of fascinating inhabitants. Though easy to overlook, these tiny creatures play an essential role in keeping mountain ecosystems healthy and balanced. Our insect hotel is a simple way of giving something back to the smallest caretakers of the Carpathian landscape.
So who are the VIP residents?
A luxury suite for solitary bees
The hotel's most valued guests are solitary mason bees. Unlike honeybees, they do not live in colonies, produce honey, or defend hives. They are gentle, independent pollinators whose contribution to nature is extraordinary.
A single mason bee can pollinate thousands of flowers in just one day, helping the colourful alpine meadows of the Carpathians flourish each season. The carefully prepared reed tubes inside the hotel provide safe nesting places where each female can raise the next generation.
A peaceful retreat for ladybirds
Ladybirds are among nature's most effective gardeners. They happily settle among bark, dry leaves, and sheltered corners before continuing their daily search for plant pests.
By naturally controlling insects that damage flowers and vegetation, they help protect Bukovel's landscapes without the need for chemical intervention. For these tiny guardians, the hotel offers a safe place to rest between patrols.
Comfortable apartments for lacewings and woodland beetles
Elegant green lacewings also find refuge within the hotel's straw and wooden chambers. Alongside them, various beetle species occupy the larger wooden sections, where they continue one of the forest's most important tasks – breaking down dead wood and returning nutrients to the soil that supports new life.
Together, these insects quietly help sustain healthy Carpathian forests.

The Carpathians thrive because countless species work together in delicate balance. Without pollinators, decomposers, and other beneficial insects, there would be fewer wildflowers, weaker forests, and less wildlife throughout the mountains.
