How to breathe cleaner air?

In major Ukrainian cities, mobile sources account for roughly 80-85% of emissions. Cars with internal combustion engines produce not only exhaust fumes but also noise, dust, and everyday stress for residents.

Why skip the car – even for a single day?

Every morning brings traffic jams, CO₂ emissions, and frayed nerves. Imagine if every second driver left their car at home for just one day – the city would literally breathe easier.

This is the spirit behind World Car-Free Day, celebrated every year on September 22. The initiative highlights the problem of air pollution and promotes eco-friendly, active transportation alternatives.

The concept originated in France when local authorities halted car traffic in several cities for 24 hours. The idea quickly spread throughout Europe, North America, and eventually Ukraine.

Even without official recognition in Ukraine, many cities hold events, flash mobs, and cycling campaigns to encourage citizens to explore alternative transport methods.

Simple steps make a difference: choose public transport, ride a bicycle or e-scooter, or simply walk.

One day without a car – a step toward lasting change

Car-Free Day is more than a temporary emission reduction. It is a reminder that sustainable alternatives exist and can become part of daily life.

Experts suggest solutions: expanding public transport, improving cycling infrastructure, adopting electric vehicles, and embracing innovative mobility options.

Sometimes, change begins with the basics: walking, cycling, or taking the tram. It may not always be convenient, but the benefits are long-lasting: cleaner air, healthier bodies, and a calmer city.

Bukovel leads by example

We actively implement eco-transport initiatives to reduce emissions and promote sustainable mobility:

  • Bukovel Bus – free of charge: two buses run between key resort areas, minimizing private car use.
  • Bicycle rentals and cycling paths: a dedicated rental point and over 30 km of safe bike trails for guests.
  • Electric vehicle charging stations: 8 modern stations with multiple plug types and capacities.

Recently, the resort partnered with JET e-scooters, offering guests a green, emission-free way to navigate the area. Benefits include:

  • smooth, eco-conscious travel across the resort;
  • reduced CO₂ emissions;
  • a more comfortable, dynamic, and environmentally friendly atmosphere.

Bukovel showcases that tourism can be both exciting and responsible, creating experiences that care for people and the planet alike.
