This summer, Bukovel’s Lake of Youth took a major step toward international recognition by earning Blue Flag Candidate status.
The Blue Flag is among the most respected global eco-labels for beach areas, awarded to sites that meet high standards in water quality, environmental management, safety, and services.
"Next year, we’ll proudly raise the official Blue Flag above the beach," says Bohdan Krasavtsev, Head of Bukovel’s Sustainable Development Office. "The program designates the first year as candidate status, so the flag is raised only in the upcoming season.
We’ve already made key improvements: an inclusive lakeside ramp, new life jackets and rescue rings, benches, changing cabins, modern restrooms, lifeguard training, and thoughtful amenities for every guest – whether you rent a sunbed or just want to swim. Access to the lake remains completely free. Come and feel the difference – in every crystal-clear drop."
What makes the Lake of Youth so special?
Nestled at over 900 meters above sea level, this is Ukraine’s largest artificial lake, set right in the heart of the Carpathians. With more than 750 meters of sparkling water, up to 8 meters deep and 140 meters wide, the lake spans 6.8 hectares – a surface area comparable to the natural Synevyr Lake. That makes it a truly unique engineering feat, especially for a mountain region.
It’s no wonder many call it the Carpathian Sea – a rare destination where beach vibes meet alpine views.
Exceptionally clear water
Fed by mountain springs, the lake boasts crystal-clear water you can see through even at depth – perfect for swimming, paddling, and water fun.
Naturally warm in summer
Unlike most cold mountain lakes, the Lake of Youth stays at a pleasant 20-23°C all summer long – ideal for swimming and watersports.
Full beach infrastructure
Over 2 kilometers of shoreline are equipped with everything you need for a relaxing day in the sun.
Functional year-round
In winter, the lake serves as a key water source for artificial snow on the ski slopes – making it a multi-season asset for Bukovel.
Local legend: it brings youth
Locals whisper that the lake’s waters can rejuvenate and heal. Swim once and feel the difference – or decide for yourself whether the myth might just be true!
Open daily from 08:00 to 19:00
Free entrance
