Lake of Youth raises the Blue Flag

On 3 June at 10:30, Bukovel officially raised the Blue Flag above Lake of Youth, marking a major milestone in the resort's sustainability journey.

"This is far more than a symbolic achievement. It is a mark of quality awarded to a water destination that meets more than 30 criteria, including excellent water quality, lifeguard services, a medical station, accessible infrastructure and visitor information facilities," says Bohdan Krasavtsev, Head of the Bukovel Sustainability Office.

Lake of Youth is the largest artificial lake in Ukraine and one of Bukovel's most popular summer destinations. Thousands of guests visit the lake every year, while the location continues to evolve in line with sustainable development principles and internationally recognised environmental standards.

The achievement is particularly significant because Lake of Youth held candidate status within the Blue Flag programme in 2025 and received full certification just one year later. This demonstrates the resort's consistent commitment to improving infrastructure, safety standards and environmental performance.

Today, Lake of Youth is the first and only mountain lake in the world whose beach has been awarded the prestigious Blue Flag distinction.

The Blue Flag programme is active in 53 countries and includes more than 5000 beaches, marinas and tourism sites that meet the highest standards of quality, safety and environmental responsibility.

It is also worth noting that in 2026, ten hotel complexes within Bukovel successfully renewed their international Green Key environmental certification following a repeat audit.
