Bukovel brings green lessons to schools

Bukovel is taking its commitment to sustainability a step further – by reaching out to the youngest members of the community.

Under the new "Sustainability for Kids" initiative, the resort has launched a program of interactive lessons, eco-themed book corners in schools and libraries, and hands-on green campaigns aimed at building everyday environmental awareness.

This week, on May 6, the Bukovel Sustainable Development Office visited the school in Polianytsya village to host two engaging sessions for 4th and 5th grade kids. The children learned how to sort waste correctly, picked up useful eco-habits, and discovered what it means to live sustainably – all through playful interaction and real-life examples.

They also explored how sustainability is practiced at the resort – from installing air quality sensors to the certification of 11 local hotels under the internationally recognized Green Key program.

“We organized a waste-sorting game where each child received a card showing a common household item. They had to choose the right color-coded bin for disposal. The toughest ones? Mercury thermometers, batteries, and fluorescent bulbs – these are hazardous materials that require special handling,” said Bohdan Krasavtsev, Head of Bukovel’s Sustainable Development Office.

The initiative is part of a broader collaboration between Bukovel and the Polianytsya community – established under a joint memorandum focused on regional sustainability and long-term impact.

As the team behind the project explains, "Sustainability for Kids" is about making environmental values accessible – through clear, kind conversations that foster a deeper connection with the world around us.
