In mid-January, Bukovel hosted the Volya project – a series of adaptive wintersports training sessions designed exclusively for veterans.
The initiative was implemented with our full support, in cooperation with Bukovel Ski School.
“After injuries or captivity, many people struggle to find their place in a new reality, and sport often becomes a point of stability – a source of new emotions, skills, self-confidence, and a supportive community. That is why initiatives like the Volya project, which promote adaptive sport, are so important. They help defenders feel supported and confident that, regardless of their injuries, they will not face their challenges alone and will have access to quality rehabilitation. For me personally, taking part in this project is a small contribution to a cause I deeply believe in. The smiles, emotions, and words of people who only yesterday did not know how to return to a full life, and today say ‘you made my dream come true’, are what truly inspire and give strength to move forward, says Lidiia Malakhivska, co-organizer of the Volya project and representative of Bukovel Ski School and the Association of Ski and Snowboard Instructors of Ukraine.
The project was also joined by Mykhailo Nalyvaiko, Bukovel’s Coordinator for Inclusivity and Veteran Policy.
"Everything went extremely well. I gained valuable skills in handling adaptive skis. It was a very meaningful experience and a powerful form of support", Mykhailo shared.
The Volya project was delivered by The Armed Forces Para-Snowsport Team with the support of the Invictus Games Foundation, in cooperation with the Ski School (BSS), the Association of Ski and Snowboard Instructors of Ukraine, and the charitable organization Stratcom Ukraine (Invictus Games Ukraine). International coaches from the United Kingdom, the United States, and Canada also took part, providing training in the use of mono-skis and adaptive snowboards.
"Each such event is a clear sign of unity around the vital issues of veteran recovery and the development of adaptive sport. What Bukovel is doing today sets a benchmark for the whole country. The experience of our instructors and the entire team forms a strong foundation for growth and serves as an example for others", summarizes Bohdan Krasavtsev, Head of the Bukovel Sustainable Development Office.
Special recognition should also be given to the work of the resort’s utilities and rental departments, security and safety services, as well as the NUMO restaurant. The Bukovel Sustainable Development Office acted as the event coordinator and provided informational and advisory support to the project organizers.
