BIATHLON CHAMPIONSHIP RECAP

1 APRIL 2024
Biathlon Championship recap

On March 22-27, the Ukrainian Biathlon Championship took place at Bukovel. Traditionally marking the end of the season, the event summoned the representatives of the national team, as well as perspective candidates: over a hundred of the country's best biathletes.

On the first day, men and ladies competed in sprint races. The leader of the Ukrainian men's team, Dmytro Pidruchnyi, expectedly took the gold, while the Team A representative, Anastasiia Merkushyna, won the women's race.

Pursuits took place on the second competitive day. The men's race went without surprises: despite two misses, Dmytro Pidruchnyi was victorious once again. As for the women's race, in the absence of the national team core athletes, Yuliia Horodna took the gold medal.

After a short break, the championship resumed with relays. Among men, the race expectedly showed domination of the Ternopil region team – Vitalii Mandzin, Anton Dudchenko, Taras Lesiuk and Dmytro Pidruchnyi. The women's relay was won by the Chernihiv region representatives – Valeriia Dmytrenko, Iryna Petrenko, Daryna Chalyk and Khrystyna Dmytrenko.

On the final day, men's and women's mass start races unfolded, won respectively by Stepan Kinash and Anastasiia Merkushyna.

This concludes the end of the wintersports season in Bukovel. Over 20 competitive events took place during the season, including championships of Ukraine in alpine skiing, freestyle and snowboarding, the Ukrainian Alpine Ski Сup, the Ukrainian Biathlon Championship, as well as international FIS-supported competitions. Our resort welcomed more than 1000 professional athletes throughout the season.

We are convinced that wintersports should thrive under any circumstances. Despite the full-scale war being waged against our country, we've managed to hold the events at the highest level. The organizing team created proper training conditions for athletes, meanwhile putting maximum effort into slope preparation.
