Sustainable Development Office: 2026 in brief

12 achievements in sustainable development at Bukovel:

• 10 Bukovel hotels now hold international Green Key certification. The standard recognises a responsible approach to resource use, environmental protection and sustainable management. Bukovel became the first destination in the world to have this many Green Key-certified properties within a single destination;
• The beach at the Lake of Youth received international Blue Flag certification in 2026. The certification recognises compliance with high standards for water quality, safety, environmental management and visitor comfort. It marked the first time anywhere in the world that a mountain lake received Blue Flag certification;
• Bukovel prepared and presented its 2025 Sustainability Report. The publication brings together the results of the resort’s work in environmental protection, social responsibility and sustainable development, including ESG indicators. It is the first non-financial report in the history of Ukraine’s tourism sector;
• An environmental dashboard was launched on Bukovel’s official website. Visitors can now access regularly updated information on air and water quality, together with the latest laboratory test results;
• A radiation monitoring station was launched at the resort, providing continuous monitoring of background radiation levels;
• Loyalty programme "Bring your own cup" was introduced. Participants include NUMO, Kuhnia Hir, Koreni and Felicita restaurants, TWINS Hotel, Faini Liody ice cream shop and Bukovel Science Park. The initiative continues to grow as more businesses across the resort support a culture of reusable cups;
• 11 kg of used batteries and rechargeable batteries were collected and sent for recycling through the NGO Batteries, Give Up!, which specialises in collecting and ensuring the responsible disposal of this type of waste;
• The "Bukovel Sorts" programme sent 5.4 tonnes of paper and 0.4 tonnes of plastic for recycling. These figures represent a tangible result of the resort’s daily waste sorting efforts, which began in October 2025;
• Seven training sessions on sustainability, inclusion and the circular economy were organised for Bukovel employees and partners with the support of the Sustainable Development Office. The company also began reforming its HR practices;
• Bukovel expanded its solar energy capacity. New solar panels with a combined capacity of 104 kW were installed at the resort, increasing its total solar capacity to 0.7 MW. This figure does not include panels installed on the roofs of partner hotels. The exact amount of green energy consumed will be presented in the next Sustainability Report in 2027;
• Bukovel created dedicated roles for inclusion and veteran policy, as well as cultural affairs. Veteran Mykhailo Nalyvaiko was appointed to lead the resort’s inclusion and veteran policy work, while civic activist Oleksandra Mecheva took responsibility for cultural affairs. A programme to inspect and mark barrier-free facilities across the resort was also launched, and three cultural events for guests were held in 2026;
• For the second year running, Bukovel has continued to actively develop its Sustainable Development website. It provides updates on environmental, cultural and social initiatives and events, alongside interviews with Bukovel's employees and partners.
