Route: sports base "Zarosliak" – Lake Nesamovyte (1,750 m) – Mount Shpytsi (1,863 m) – sports base "Zarosliak"
Distance: 16 km
Elevation gain: 900 m
Difficulty level: hard

This route takes you deep into the heart of Chornohora – one of the most distinct orographic structures of the Ukrainian Carpathians. The trail showcases dramatic elevation zoning and a rich mosaic of landscapes. Along the way, hikers pass through the subalpine zone, home to unique remnants of natural krummholz vegetation, including dwarf mountain pine (Pinus mugo) and Siberian juniper (Juniperus sibirica).

Lake Nesamovyte is a textbook example of a high-altitude cirque lake of glacial origin. Located at 1750 meters above sea level, its basin was formed by ancient glaciation. Today, its shoreline continues to evolve under the influence of hydromorphic processes and human activity, making it both a natural wonder and a fragile ecosystem.

Mt. Shpytsi (1,863 m) stands out for its striking morphosculptural terrain, characterized by steep rocky formations known as inselbergs, some reaching 20-50 meters in height. These dramatic structures were shaped by gravitational weathering and erosion of shale-sandstone layers. Shpytsi is more than a scenic landmark – it is a rare geomorphological monument, valued for both geoecological significance and visual impact.

This hike offers a rich look at the diverse ecosystems of the Carpathian highlands, from mountain forests to subalpine plant communities, culminating in the stark beauty of alpine rockscapes. It’s a route where you can truly experience vertical zonation, ascending from the forest belt through meadows and up to the stony heights of the range.
