Route: Bukovel – Yavirnyk-Gorgan ridge (1467 m) – Bukovel

Distance: 13 km

This route is a moderately challenging mountain hike that combines a visit to one of the region's iconic waterfalls with an ascent to the Yavirnyk-Gorgan summit, opening wide panoramic views over the Eastern Gorgany. The trail passes through coniferous and mixed forests, crosses mountain streams, gradually transitioning into subalpine landscapes with rocky terrain and scenic viewpoints. The route is led by a Bukovel Tourist Center's professional guide.
Mt. Yavirnyk lies within the Gorgany massif of the Ukrainian Carpathians, a region known for its steep slopes, dense forests, and distinctive stone fields known as “tsekoty”. These formations developed over time through the weathering of sandstone and other sedimentary rocks typical of the Carpathian flysch zone. The landscape has been shaped over millions of years by tectonic activity, erosion, and glacial processes, resulting in a varied terrain of deep valleys and rolling ridgelines.
The route also includes a visit to Zhenetskyi Huk Waterfall – one of the most recognisable waterfalls in the Subcarpathian region. Formed by the Zhenets stream, it reaches around 15 metres in height and is known for its powerful cascade, especially striking after rainfall or during spring snowmelt. The waterfall area has viewing platforms, allowing visitors to safely enjoy the scenery.
As the trail ascends towards Yavirnyk-Gorgan, it passes through distinct natural zones – from dense forest in the lower sections to open highland areas with rocky fields near the summit. From the viewpoints, guests can take in views of neighbouring Eastern Gorgany peaks, along with region's picturesque ridges and valleys.
The route features typical Carpathian flora: spruce and beech forests, patches of blueberry and lingonberry, as well as mountain grasses and mosses. The forested areas are home to local fauna, including birds, small mammals, and amphibians that inhabit damn areas near streams and springs.
What makes this route distinctive is the balance between a active mountain recreation and the opportunity to visit one of the region’s iconic natural sites – combining physical activity with a visually rich and immersive experience.
