Today, on July 3, the world observes International Plastic Bag Free Day.
This global initiative reminds us of the urgent need to reduce single-use plastic and its harmful effects on the environment.
Plastic bags first appeared in supermarkets in 1977 and quickly gained popularity thanks to their low cost and convenience. But their environmental footprint has been devastating. According to the UN, around 5 trillion plastic bags are used globally each year, and less than 1% are recycled. In nature, a single plastic bag can take over 200 years to decompose, polluting land and waterways. They also pose a threat to wildlife, which can mistake them for food or get entangled in them.
At Bukovel, we believe change starts with small steps. That’s why we’re introducing practical eco-solutions for both guests and the community.
Soon, a new waste-sorting system will launch across the resort. Sixteen dedicated recycling stations will make it easy to separate glass, paper, and plastic. Our goal is to reduce landfill waste and support higher recycling rates.
Another step is our “Bring Your Own Cup” initiative, which started on July 1. Guests with reusable cups or thermoses (not disposable plastic or paper) can enjoy any hot or cold drink with a small discount. Hotels HVOYA, TAVEL, and TWINS have already joined, and restaurant NUMO will follow soon.
You too can make a difference:
- Carry a reusable bag instead of plastic – it’s a simple, eco-friendly habit.
- Choose products with sustainable packaging.
- Avoid single-use items like bottles, straws, and cutlery.
- Lead by example – your choices can inspire friends and family.
Together, we can reduce plastic waste and protect nature for future generations.
