Bukovel climate policy

The Sustainability Office has outlined the key tools Bukovel uses and plans to use to reduce carbon emission.

1. Our vision

Bukovel recognises its responsibility for environmental and climate impact and is evolving into a climate-responsible mountain resort. This document looks ahead to 2030.

We aim to

  • reduce our carbon footprint;
  • adapt to climate change in the Carpathian region;
  • involve guests, partners and our team in responsible consumption;
  • develop tourism that respects the environment.

2. Core principles

Our work is based on

  • prevention – acting early instead of compensating later;
  • measurability – tracking everything we do;
  • partnership – cooperation with communities, businesses and NGOs;
  • people-centred approach – guests and team members are part of the change;
  • continuous improvement.

3. Climate goals until 2030

Strategic goal: reduce direct and indirect CO₂ emissions by at least 40% by 2030 (baseline – 2024).

3.1 Energy

By 2030 we plan to

  • increase renewable electricity by 30%;
  • gradually transition to electric and hybrid transport;
  • modernise heating, ventilation and lighting systems;
  • conduct mandatory energy audits of key facilities.

3.2 Mobility

  • expand internal electric transport (electric scooters and bicycles);
  • encourage guests to use free public transport;
  • partner with responsible brands;
  • expand the charging infrastructure across the resort.

3.3 Construction and infrastructure

  • apply energy-efficient standards to new buildings;
  • use local materials;
  • minimise earthworks;
  • introduce Green Key certification for hotels and service buildings.

3.4 Water

  • reduce water consumption by at least 20% at hospitality facilities (already implemented in MAVKA Aquapark);
  • monitor wastewater quality;
  • use nature-based solutions for lakes and drainage.

3.5 Waste

  • make waste separation standard practice across the resort;
  • reduce single-use plastic;
  • compost organic waste.

3.6 Biodiversity

  • preserve natural corridors;
  • implement compensatory tree planting;
  • minimise noise and light pollution;
  • cooperate with environmental and tourism experts.

4. Climate change adaptation strategy

Bukovel adapts its operational model to climate change:

  • developing an all-season resort;
  • expanding summer tourism;
  • planning snow cover;
  • creating insurance and reserve mechanisms.

5. People and culture

We invest in

  • staff training on climate topics;
  • internal green programmes;
  • guest engagement through information and communication channels;
  • support for local communities.

6. Transparency

Each year Bukovel publishes

  • a sustainability report;
  • key ESG indicators;
  • progress on climate goals;
  • an action plan for the next year.

7. Governance

The climate policy is implemented through

  • the Sustainability Office;
  • resort departments;
  • external experts;
  • partner organisations.

Summary

We are not just a resort.
We are part of the Carpathians.
And our responsibility is to keep them alive.

KEY GOALS UNTIL 2030 (HIGHLIGHTS)

Bukovel takes responsibility for its climate impact and moves toward an all-season resort model where development respects the Carpathian environment.

Reducing the carbon footprint

Reduce CO₂ emissions by at least 40% by 2030 through energy efficiency, electric mobility and renewable energy.

Clean energy

Increase the share of green electricity to 50% by modernising lighting, heating and ventilation systems.

Sustainable mobility

Develop electric transport and charging infrastructure and encourage guests to use shared and public transport.

Water and waste

Reduce water consumption by at least 20% by expanding technical water reuse, strengthening waste separation and launching a pilot composting programme. The resort also plans to phase out single-use plastic.

Protecting the Carpathians

Preserve biodiversity, minimise landscape impact, support natural corridors and plant compensatory trees.

People as part of change

Continue training the team, engaging guests, supporting communities and building a responsible consumption culture.

Climate adaptation

Develop an all-season resort, reinforce slopes, apply nature-based solutions and plan operations with climate change in mind.

Transparency

Publish annual progress on climate and ESG indicators and update the action plan.
