Bukovel hosts “Tobacco OFF” forum

On May 16, 2025, Bukovel hosted its first-ever “Tobacco OFF” Forum – a landmark event aimed at helping hospitality businesses implement smoke-free policies and ensure compliance with tobacco control legislation.

The forum brought together hoteliers and restaurateurs from Bukovel, Polianytsia, and Yaremche, who gathered to discuss practices for creating healthier public spaces. Key topics included legal compliance, guest comfort, and the broader role of hospitality in promoting sustainable tourism.

“Events like this are essential for building dialogue between the private sector and public authorities,” noted Bohdan Krasavtsev, Head of Bukovel’s Office for Sustainable Development. “With just two weeks of preparation, we managed to host this productive session – and we hope to continue holding such meetings regularly.”

The forum was part of Bukovel’s broader sustainability strategy, which integrates environmental, social, and governance principles into the resort’s long-term vision.

Valentyna Senchuk, Head of the Tobacco Control and Advertising Regulation Department at the Ivano-Frankivsk Consumer Protection Service, highlighted the wide range of topics addressed:

“In addition to discussing the legal aspects of tobacco regulation, we explored real-world issues like how to engage guests and prevent advertising violations. Participants raised thoughtful questions – from the future of e-cigarette sales to the legal boundaries of AI-driven promotions. The interest and interaction were inspiring.”

The event was co-organized by the Bukovel Office for Sustainable Development, HVOYA Hotel, and the regional Consumer Protection Service.

Earlier this year, Bukovel certified 11 hotels and the NUMO restaurant under the international Green Key program, which includes smoke-free environment criteria. The “Tobacco OFF” Forum marks yet another step toward aligning hospitality standards with global health and sustainability goals.
