Bukovel at the “Green Jobs for Ukraine’s Recovery” conference

We are delighted to share that Bukovel has been recognized among Ukraine’s leading success stories in creating green jobs in 2025.

“This achievement is a major milestone for our team, for the Carpathian region and for the entire tourism industry. It strengthens our belief that a year-round resort can be not only a destination for travelers, but also a driving force for innovation, environmental solutions and social responsibility”, – note representatives of the Bukovel Sustainable Development Office.

The “Green Jobs for Ukraine’s Recovery and European Integration” conference took place in Kyiv this November, supported by UNEP and the International Labour Organization.

More details below.

On 11 November 2025, more than 600 participants gathered in Kyiv for the stakeholders’ conference “Green Jobs for Ukraine’s Recovery and European Integration”. Government officials, international institutions, businesses, communities, educators, researchers and civil society representatives joined the hybrid-format event. The program focused on advancing the green economy, driving environmental transformation and creating safe, meaningful and future-oriented jobs for Ukraine’s recovery.

Green jobs are roles that preserve or restore the environment, improve efficient use of natural resources and reduce emissions. They are essential to implementing the European Green Deal and guiding Ukraine toward a climate-neutral economy.

These professions are shaping a new economic model – competitive, climate-resilient and aligned with European markets.

Bukovel’s Sustainable Development Office presented its own hands-on achievements in environmental management, social responsibility and inclusivity.

“Our presentation highlighted how the resort is transforming in line with international sustainability standards, increasing resource efficiency and strengthening its social impact on local communities and the labor market”, – says environmental expert Iryna Furdela.

A key theme of the presentation focused on engaging veterans in sustainable tourism.

“As our sustainability team grows, Bukovel is expanding its veteran-support initiatives. Recently, Mykhailo Nalyvaiko – a veteran of the Russo-Ukrainian war – joined as Coordinator for Inclusivity and Veteran Policy. For us, sustainability means people first: social fairness, equality of opportunity and support for veterans. We want every guest and every employee to feel part of a community that develops in harmony with nature and society”, – adds Bohdan Krasavtsev.

The development of green jobs in tourism also involves:

  • supporting staff training in sustainable management;
  • working with communities to grow local green businesses;
  • building an inclusive, barrier-free environment;
  • helping veterans through employment, mentoring and participation in eco-initiatives.

Highlights from the keynote speeches

Ihor Zubovych, Deputy Minister of Economy, Environment and Agriculture:
– The green transition unlocks new roles where veterans can apply their skills to restoring ecosystems and rebuilding infrastructure.

Pierre Carlo Sende, UNEP Representative in Ukraine:
– Up to 2 million new green jobs could be created within the next 2-3 years. Ensuring decent, stable and well-paid conditions is essential.

Dzemal Hodzic, International Labour Organization:
– A green economy must go hand in hand with decent work. Social aspects, training and reskilling are key.

Olena Kryvoruchkina, Member of Parliament:
– Ukraine has a unique opportunity to rebuild through a green economy, integrating European eco-standards across all sectors. Green reconstruction will generate thousands of new jobs in energy efficiency, waste management and sustainable construction.

Svitlana Berzina, President of NGO “Living Planet”:
– Approving a national taxonomy of green activities will lay the foundation for transparent evaluation, attracting investment and preventing “greenwashing”.

Thank you to everyone supporting our journey and believing in a greener future for Bukovel and for Ukraine.
