139 veterans took part in Strong Spirit’s Games competitions

On September 14, 2024, the finals of the national veteran team selection for the international competition "Strong Spirit's Games 2024" took place at Bukovel. The event summoned 139 veterans with disabilities from 20 regions of Ukraine.

Organized by the Strongman Federation of Ukraine in collaboration with the Ministry of Veterans Affairs of Ukraine, this event is an example of a prominent social initiative held to express gratitude and respect to our brave defenders. The competition was aimed at empowering veterans through sports, community efforts and social adaptation, in order to help them return to normal life after suffering physical injuries and/or PTSD.

"Sport is the best tool to resocialize veterans into civil life. We are grateful to Bukovel for the general partnership support of this important initiative," said the president of the Strongman Federation, Serhii Koniushok.

Athletes competed in adaptive sports disciplines: bench press, rowing on a simulator, kettlebell jerk, airbike. They've showcased incredible strength, endurance and indomitable spirit. Their perseverance and determination have inspired both fans and fellow veterans.

Veteran competitor Illia Haiduk had this to say: "These competitions are extremely important. By achieving results, by training, being surrounded by like-minded people, – we receive that much needed boost to our morale. We regain the meaning of life!"

Based on the competition results, 50 members of the national team will be selected to represent the country at the international sports festival Arnold Classic Europe in Madrid, scheduled for October 11-13, 2024. This will be the largest team of Ukrainian veterans to participate in an international competition.
