The Bukovel Sustainable Development Office, in collaboration with local hoteliers, has launched the final stage of preparations for hotel certification under the international Green Key standard.
Recently, a two-day practical seminar took place with hotel management teams, who participated in a course on implementing environmental standards and created draft action plans for integrating sustainable development principles for 2025–2026.
As part of the Green Key certification process, hotels and restaurants are required to complete a set of preparatory tasks. These include compiling the necessary documentation, adopting an environmental and sustainability policy, and meeting at least 70% of Green Key program criteria. In addition, each hotel business being involved is expected to develop a roadmap to achieve full compliance with 100% of the criteria outlined in the program.
The Green Key program currently operates in more than 80 countries. It certifies hotels, restaurants, and other tourism establishments that meet recognized sustainability standards. To date, over 7500 establishments across various continents have successfully received Green Key certification.
“The certification of hotels and restaurants under the Green Key program is an essential step in preparing Bukovel for destination-wide certification under Green Destinations standards,” says Bohdan Krasavtsev, Head of the Bukovel Sustainable Development Office. “This spring, several hotels and restaurants at Bukovel will undergo audits in their pursuit of Green Key certification. It's an ambitious goal for both the resort and its partners!”
The certification process evaluates each establishment’s environmental policy, energy and water efficiency, waste management systems, and other sustainable practices. A Green Key certificate is a mark of a business's commitment to responsible tourism and environmental care. It also serves as a reference point for travelers looking for eco-conscious destinations on the official Green Key website.
