There are things so constant in our lives that we rarely stop to appreciate them.
The sun is one of them.
It rises every morning without reminders, subscriptions or invoices. Yet it remains the most powerful source of energy our planet has ever known. That is why every year on 3 May the world celebrates Sun Day – a reminder that the energy of the future is already here, and it is virtually limitless.
A celebration born from an idea
Sun Day was established in 1994 by enthusiasts from the International Solar Energy Society to show that renewable energy is not a distant concept, but a real and practical solution.
Since then, countries across Europe have marked the occasion with events dedicated to sustainable energy – from open days in energy-efficient buildings to exhibitions, research initiatives and even solar-powered car races.
The scale behind the sunlight
The sun is a giant that has been generating energy continuously for 4.6 billion years. Temperatures at its core reach around 15 million degrees, and every second it releases more energy than humanity has produced throughout its entire history.
What makes this even more remarkable is that only a tiny fraction of this energy reaches Earth. Yet even that small amount is enough to support natural ecosystems and modern economies.
This is exactly why solar energy is now considered one of the key foundations of the transition towards a low-carbon future.
Energy that supports sustainable development
Unlike traditional energy sources, solar power does not require extraction, transportation or combustion. It creates opportunities for growth without placing additional pressure on the environment.
For Bukovel, the transition towards renewable energy is a natural step in the resort’s long-term development. Solar panels are already being used across the resort to generate electricity, and in 2025 alone they helped save more than UAH 2.3 million in energy costs.
This supports several important priorities:
- energy independence;
- lower emissions;
- preservation of the Carpathians’ natural resources.
Sustainable development always begins with decisions made today. And the sun remains one of the most reliable partners in that journey.
