This article highlights Bukovel’s key sustainability practices – the steps we take every day to protect the Carpathians’ natural harmony.
Clean air, transparent waters, and the region’s unique biodiversity are more than just our responsibility – they are our mission. Sustainability lies at the very heart of Bukovel’s philosophy, proving that environmental awareness can go hand in hand with innovation and growth.
Our achievements
Smart energy use
- Gradual transition to LED lighting in hotel rooms, public spaces, and along ski slopes. Between 2021–2024, this initiative helped save over 139,000 kWh of electricity.
- Expanding alternative energy sources – including solar panels (0.6 MW, car park #1) and heat pumps at the MAVKA aquapark and Bukovel hotels.
- Installation of individual thermostats in hotel rooms for precise temperature control.
- Motion sensors in low-traffic areas to minimize unnecessary energy use.
- Replacement of equipment with modern energy-efficient systems throughout the resort.
- Eco-reminder signage in hotel rooms encourages guests to reuse towels and linens, reducing water and electricity consumption.
Responsible water management
- Continuous monitoring of drinking and wastewater quality.
- Smart water meters installed across all hotels and main infrastructure.
- Water-saving fixtures such as low-flow taps and dual-flush toilets.
Clean air & green mobility
- Real-time air quality monitoring.
Two IQAir AirVisual Outdoor stations (in the resort center and on Mt. Dovha) provide continuous data available through a mobile app.
- Free Bukovel Bus shuttles connect the resort’s key locations – from Parking #1 to the wake park – reducing private car use.
- Tatariv-Bukovel shuttle service minimizes road congestion and emissions.
- 8 EV charging stations with various connector types for guest convenience.
- Bicycle rental and over 30 km of bike paths promote healthy, eco-friendly travel.
- Collaboration with JET e-scooter service – a further step toward low-carbon mobility.
Waste management & recycling
Hazardous waste collection: In partnership with a local NGO, the resort collects used batteries and accumulators at the central Information Center for safe recycling.
“Bukovel Sorts” program:
- Partnership with ALFA Recycling IF for waste removal and processing.
- Branded containers for glass, plastic, and paper installed across the resort.
- Color-coded sorting labels and clear educational visuals.
- Strategic placement of containers for maximum accessibility.
Eco-education
The resort conducts eco-lessons for local schools, including "The Importance of Sorting and Eco Habits" and "Building Environmental Awareness from Childhood."
By engaging young people, Bukovel helps nurture a generation that values sustainability and respect for nature.
