LANDSCAPES AND CUISINE OF TRANSCARPATHIA: A JOURNEY TO KVASY
This journey captures the true spirit of the Carpathians, where every mountain peak, every craft, and every flavor becomes part of a living cultural landscape. It’s one of those tours that doesn’t just open new boundaries, but lets you feel the continuity of tradition beautifully woven into modern life.
Tour program:
- The high-mountain ridge Svydovets – the route leads to panoramic viewpoints near the foothill of Mt. Stih, offering sweeping panoramas of Hoverla, Petros, Blyznytsia, Zhandarm, Khomiak, Syniak. Svydovets is a softly rolling, glacier-sculpted ridge – one of the best-preserved in the Carpathians. It forms the watershed between the Tysa and Chorna Tysa river basins, nurtures countless streams, and shelters alpine meadows, subalpine wetlands, featuring rare relict flora.
- Trufanets Waterfall – a natural gem of the region. Its 36-meter cascades create a lively, powerful flow that crashes down the rock walls, offering an intimate encounter with the raw force of mountain water.
- Strukiv Church (Yasinia village) – a 17th-century wooden masterpiece and a UNESCO World Heritage site. Built entirely without nails, it stands as a symbol of Hutsul sacred architecture, where perfect proportions, the quiet of ash wood, and the scent of centuries evoke a powerful spiritual presence.
- The village of Kvasy – a modern hub of Hutsul craftsmanship. Here, traditional skills blend naturally with local entrepreneurship. Potters, weavers, cheesemakers, wood and leather artisans create pieces cherished both in Ukraine and abroad. Kvasy shows how heritage can thrive in today’s world without losing roots.
- "Tsypa" craft brewery – an introduction to the creative Hutsul spirit of brewing. The tour includes a look behind the production process and a tasting of signature beers and mountain-inspired cheeses. Each flavor reflects spring water, local ingredients, and the character of the highlands.
- Restaurant "Bokorash" – the final culinary stop where traditional recipes are reimagined with a modern touch. Expect banosh, mushroom soup, grilled trout, herb-infused meats, brynza cheese, fermented treats, natural fruit liqueurs.
- Burkut spring – one of the most renowned mineral waters of Zakarpattia. Known since the 19th century, it offers a distinctive taste shaped by the mineral richness of mountain soil.
