KVASY: A JOURNEY THROUGH TASTE AND TRADITION

This tour introduces the Carpathians through panoramic landscapes, local culture and regional flavours. It starts at a viewpoint in Yablunytsia, where wide panoramas open across three mountain ranges – Chornohora, Svydovets and the Eastern Gorgany, with visibility of the highest Carpathian peaks in clear conditions. The journey then continues to Strukivska Church in Yasinia – an 18th-century wooden landmark recognised as a UNESCO World Heritage site, preserving traditional Hutsul architecture and a sense of historical continuity in the region.
A key natural stop is Trufanetskyi Waterfall – one of the largest in Zakarpattia, flowing in cascades from around 36 metres through forested mountain terrain. Its accessible location allows visitors to enjoy the site without extended climbs, making the experience comfortable for a broad range of travellers. The route continues to Kvasy, where the “Rozental” dairy offers insight into local cheese production and includes a tasting of craft cheeses made from regional milk.
The tour also includes a walk to the Vaskul sheep farm – a working highland household that preserves traditional shepherd practices. Here, visitors can observe the cheese-making process in an authentic setting. The day finishes at the “Bokorash” restaurant – a mountain-view venue where Hutsul cuisine is reinterpreted in a contemporary format, combining local ingredients with traditional recipes.
A visit the Burkut spring concludes the trip, offering mineral water known since the 19th century for its distinctive composition and taste. The combination of sightseeing, cultural context, local gastronomy and an accessible route creates a well-balanced one-day experience, suitable for a first introduction to the Carpathians.
